ABOUT ME
_______________
I have been a teacher for twenty years, working in mainstream schools and with children with special educational needs. I have a wealth of experience both as an educator and as a source of pastoral support. I became increasingly interested in people's need for emotional support and retrained as a counsellor. I found it fascinating to learn about mental wellbeing and I continue to expand my knowledge through continual professional development. This could be by reading, attending training or through research.
MY QUALIFICATIONS
_______________
I am a qualified counsellor (Level 4 Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling) and a qualified teacher (BA Hons, MA, PGCE ). I am also a registered member of the BACP. I can be found on the Counselling Directory and Psychology Today registers (https://www.psychologytoday.com/profile/426348) and have been verified by these organisations. A selection of additional training includes safeguarding, hearing impairment, deaf studies, deaf community and culture, Makaton, British Sign Language, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and working alongside transgender, non-binary and gender questioning people, their partners and families.
The BACP (British Association for Counselling and Psycotherapy) have an ethical framework which I adhere to, in order to ensure I am working professionally and in the client's best interest at all times. You can find out about their high standards at www.bacp.co.uk .
MY EXPERIENCE
Here are some of the issues I have explored with clients. If you are unsure whether I can help you, then get in touch.
MY COUNSELLING SESSIONS
WHO DO I WORK WITH?
I work with adults, covering a variety of issues. If you are feeling unhappy, unfulfilled or dissatisfied with life, I am here to support you to find clarity and to identify whether there are changes you wish to make.
WHAT ISSUES DO I WORK WITH?
I have experience of supporting clients with a wide range of issues. We are all unique and our stories are very individual. Even if two people are both struggling with anxiety, they will both be having a very different experience. It is my job to try to understand how you are feeling. This is the case whatever you want to talk about. If you are wondering whether we would work well together, get in touch and we can talk about what you are hoping to get from counselling.
HOW DO I WORK?
I believe in client autonomy and appreciate the fact that there are many ways that people can live their lives. I endeavour to walk beside you along your personal path, offering empathy, honesty and unconditional positive regard.
SERVICES: MY COUNSELLING SESSIONS
FREQUENCY
I offer individual adult counselling sessions which will take place at a mutually convenient time and day, generally weekly. These sessions are face to face and last fifty minutes. We talk about whatever you want to and go at your pace.
COST
After a free initial phone consultation my fees are £50 per session. This is paid before the start of each session in cash or by bank transfer.
DURATION
I offer long and short term counselling depending on your requirements. We review the number of sessions you feel you want throughout our therapy. You won't be encouraged to talk about anything you do not feel ready to talk about.
LOCATION
Therapy takes place at my office in central Bracknell, where I endeavour to put you at ease. I work with clients who live in Bracknell. I also work with clients who work in Bracknell who see me at lunchtime or after work. Bracknell is easily accessible from surrounding areas such as Crowthorne, Camberley, Ascot, Binfield, Yateley, Finchampstead, Barkham, Wokingham, Winkfield, Sunninghill, Sandhurst and Woosehill.
